Salvation Army Selected as December Organization of the Month in Stark County

The Salvation ArmyAbout MCTV's Organization of the Month

Charitable behavior can lead to psychological, spiritual, and emotional well-being benefits for the giver. Besides helping the community and being a part of a greater good, charitable donations are tax deductible, can give you a sense of purpose and can help keep you informed about issues of social injustice. Each month, MCTV highlights two local non-profit organizations. We have donation boxes set up in our lobbies and have information on our websites about each charity, along with links to their respective websites. MCTV’s commitment to charitable causes creates new ways for you to find, learn about, and support local charities. We try to make a bigger difference in the causes you care about the most and become partners with the organizations in order to bring about change. Donate with confidence to these organizations. They are low-risk organizations, have targeted goals, function with good governance and have transparency policies. To learn more, visit our community involvement page.

MCTV is pleased to recognize The Salvation Army as our Community Organization of the Month. Please join us in thanking them for their efforts to improve the quality of life in Stark County. You can support them financially at our office or online at www.salvationarmyusa.org.

About the Salvation Army

The Salvation Army began in 1865 when William Booth, a London minister, gave up the comfort of his pulpit and decided to take his message into the streets where it would reach the poor, the homeless, the hungry, and the destitute.

Here are some quick facts regarding our local Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army’s services to the community include comprehensive emergency services, housing mediation, homeless and at risk homeless coordination, adult computer education, clothing assistance, community referrals, spiritual counseling and services, and a satellite community social services’ office.  In order to meet the holistic needs of clients, they collaborate with other social services agencies, encouraging them to use The Salvation Army’s building as a satellite office.

In 2006, The Salvation Army purchased 3.523 acres located at 514 North Avenue, NE on which The Army built a 17,992 square feet facility, which now provides adequate space for current and expanded programs.  Three unique aspects of the facility include a “Choice Food” Pantry, “Working Clothes” Closet, and satellite social service offices.  The “Choice Food” Pantry allows clients to “shop” for food items, learning how to provide proper nutrition for their families.  The “Working Clothes” Closet provides a space for clothing to be laid out with a focus on working, professional clothes.  And, the Satellite Social Service offices provide space for Canton based agencies to offer their services in our community.

You can stop by MCTV throughout the month of December and help the Salvation Army reach its goal for the new facility.  Thank you for supporting the Organization of the Month and Happy Holidays!
